Whitemud Equine Centre

Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association (WELCA) is a non-profit organization located in Edmonton's River Valley, east of Fort Edmonton Park. The land has been owned by the City of Edmonton since the early 1970's.

Whitemud Equine Centre offers riding programs and equine recreation including horse shows, riding lessons, camps, and educational events. The Centre is open year round.

WELCA's opportunities with horses host 1000 participants every week through programs such as: Horse care and riding lessons for ages 6 to adult , the Little Therapeutic Riding Association, City of Edmonton summer camps for children ages 8-14 years , indoor and outdoor board for horses, tours for day-cares, senior’s centres, home schools, elementary and junior high school, and special event facilities . There is a log cabin, built in 1918 by the property’s original owner, Captain Fred Keillor, which is also available to rent for special events.

Watching a horse show at Whitemud Equine Learning Centre is a fun, free way to spend a day! Here are some tips:

  1. Check the weather before coming; remember: horse shows take place outside! Pack: Sunscreen, insect repellent, lunch, water.
  2. Get an arena show schedule from the registration office
  3. See which events you are interested in watching, and which arena they are being held in
