Terwillegar Park in Edmonton

Terwillegar Park is located in Edmonton’s beautiful Southwest River Valley. Terwillegar Park is for cyclists, runners, hikers, and skiers. The 459-acre park is big enough so everyone can enjoy their own piece of paradise. The park is built in a former gravel pit, and still has some water-filled ponds that enhance the natural beauty and topography of the land.
Terwillegar Park is an excellent park for observing wildlife: deer and rabbits live this natural urban area.
In 2005, City Council approved plans for Terwillegar Park, River Valley in Edmonton Alberta. The plan defined the vision, key values, preferred activities and structures that were required to meet the needs of the public while protecting and conserving the resources of Terwillegar Park.
The mandate of the Terwillegar Park is to K.I.S. or Keep it Simple: keep development minimal and to ensure new structures complement the existing natural setting. The planning of Terwillegar Park included a new multiuse trail (MUT) through the park with connections across the river.
The design of all the new features and amenities supports use of Terwillegar Park by the public all year around.
Features of Terwillegar Park include: ponds, a multiuse trail through the park, enhanced walking trails, a Universal Access Trail for those with disabilities, access to the park’s unique environmental features for users with all levels of ability, enhanced mountain bike trails, cross country ski trails, a canoe/kayak launch, a designated on leash area for dogs, and a program and washroom facility that offers outdoor education programs and events.
