Robson Street was named after John Robson, the Premier of British Colombia between 1889 and 1892. When railway tracks were laid adjacent to the street in 1895, shops of every variety began to emerge. Historically, Robson Street was where the German community shopped; the number of German Delis, Bakeries and Restaurants on Robson Street gave it the nickname Robsonstrasse.
