French Canadian Mountains

The mountain ranges in the province of Quebec include the Appalachian Mountains, the Green Mountains, the Laurentian Moutains, the Otish Mountains, and the Shickshock Mountains.

The Appalachian Mountains
The Appalachian Mountains extend from the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec to the Gulf coastal plains in Alaska. There are many sections included in the mountain range such as the White Mountains, the Green Mountains, the Berkshire Hills, the Catskill Mountains, the Allegheny Plateau, the Black Mountains, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge, and the Cumberland Plateau; the highest peak is Mount Mitchell at 6,684 feet. In terms of natural resources, the Appalachians are rich in iron, petroleum, natural gas, and coal. The mountains in Quebec also harbour Shenandoah National Park, the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park where you’ll find beautiful scenery, wildlife, skiing, tourist attractions, lakes, and mountain resorts!

The Green Mountains
The Green Mountains are a range within the Appalachian Mountains extending from Southern Quebec, Canada into Vermont, USA. The tallest peak of the Green Mountain Range is Mount Mansfield in Vermont, and reaches to 4,393 feet. For natural resources, the Green Mountains retain talc, asbestos, and granite. The range is also known for it’s heavy forests (timber industry), and production of Canadian maple syrup. In terms of tourist attractions, there are ski resorts, hiking trails (Long Trail), wildlife, and breathtaking scenery.

The Laurentian Mountains
The Laurentian Mountains are located North of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers, and the highest peak is Mount Tremblant at 3,150 feet. The mountains embrace many lakes such as the Gatineau, the Montmorency, and St. Maurice rivers which provide hot spots for tourism and recreation. The range also contains Mount Tremblant Provincial Park which is know for it’s beauty and skiing.

The Otish Mountains
The Otish Mountains exist in Central Quebec, where the tallest peak rises to 3,700 feet. The range also harbours the Eastmain, Peribonca, and Outranders rivers.

The Shickshock Mountains
The Shickshock Mountains are part of the Appalachian system in Eastern Quebec, and extend to the coast of Gaspe Peninsula. Within the Shickshock mountains you’ll find Tabletop Mountain, and Mount Jacques Cartier.
