Commonwealth Stadium

Commonwealth Stadium is a sports stadium located in the Norwood Area of Edmonton. The stadium is owned and operated by the City of Edmonton.
Commonwealth Stadium was initially built for the 1978 Commonwealth Games. When the city of Edmonton was chosen to host the games, Edmonton City Council decided to build a new 40,000-seat stadium.
Construction was completed in 1978. The stadium cost $20.9-million to build, and the original capacity was approximately 42,500. The stadium was expanded by 18,000 seats to a capacity of 60,081 for the Summer Universiade Games in 1983. The stadium underwent extensive renovations in 2001.
Commonwealth Stadium is the home of the Edmonton Eskimos Football team. The stadium is the second largest in Canada.
The Edmonton Eskimos have called the Commonwealth Stadium home for the past 30 years. Filled with a history of Grey Cup wins, Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium is a perfect venue to watch Canadian football.
Commonwealth Stadium hosts major sports events including the World Masters Games, the FIFA-19 Women's World Championship, the IAAF World Championship, the Commonwealth Games and the Grey Cup. It is also an excellent venue for events such as the Heritage Classic outdoor NHL hockey game.
Concession: There are alcohol outlets with portable stands, and numerous food and beverage kiosks. As well there are portable souvenir sales outlets and one permanent souvenir outlet.
Additional Facilities: 19 washrooms, 4 ticket booths and Access Manager System for ticket-control entry. There is parking for 800 vehicles.
