Charlottetown

Charlottetown is the capital city of PEI with a population of 44,000 and is its largest urban centre. Charlottetown is the birthplace of the Canadian Confederation, and is a wonderfully quaint place to visit. There are many historic homes and sites to visit. Every July 1st, there is a 3 day festival to commemorate the Confederation as well as performances of the play, Anne of Green Gables at the Confederation for the Arts. Anne of Green Gables, that famous red headed orphan, hails from PEI and tourists from around the world who have read the book by Lucy Maud Montgomery come to PEI to see the place where the fictional character grew up. In autumn, there is a fabulous Seafood Festival in Charlottetown, which is a celebration of all the treasures from the sea; Atlantic lobster, Malpeque oysters, and Island Blue Mussels.
