Art Gallery of Alberta - AOE

Founded in 1924, the Art Gallery of Alberta maintains a collection of over 6,000 art objects and is the oldest cultural institution in Alberta. It is the only museum in Alberta dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of art and visual culture.
The Art Gallery of Alberta is a public centre for the visual arts, connecting people, art and ideas. The AGA focuses on the development and presentation of original exhibitions of contemporary and historical art from Alberta, and around the world.
Celebrating its location on Sir Winston Churchill Square in the heart of the Arts District downtown, the design of the AGA extends the Gallery right into the community, welcoming all visitors to experience art.
Its angular windows are set against a winding 190-metre steel ribbon that mimics the North Saskatchewan River and the Aurora Borealis. This continuous stainless steel structure winds through the Gallery’s interior and exterior and modernizes the museum’s public spaces, connecting visitors with their downtown urban surroundings.
The AEO has recently undergone a much needed face-lift. Designed by architect Randall Stout, the 85,000 sq foot new AGA opened to the public on January 31, 2010.
The new Gallery features three floors of exhibition space; the City of Edmonton Terrace; the Singhmar Centre for Art Education; Zinc restaurant; Shop AGA; Ledcor Theatre and an Art Rental and Sales Gallery.
The AEO offers: educational programs, day camps, events, a gift shop, art and room rentals and catering for events.
Group rates available as well.
The gallery is also home to Zinc Restaurant which is open 11-5pm.
Wheelchair accessible and moderately sized strollers are welcome. Please read the general information page with regards to photography inside the gallery.
