Alberta Geographic Location

Alberta is located in Western Canada between British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Alberta is a dynamic province that boasts the Rocky Mountains on its western border, numerous lakes including the Lake Athabasca, and Lesser Slave Lake, and vast flat prairies. Alberta is well known for its beauty and abundant supply of natural resources. It is the country’s largest producer of natural gas products, which contributes to the overall wealth of the province. Beef, bison, and agriculture are also top industries within the province

Regions

Alberta contains three main regions: Southern, Central, and Northern. Southern Alberta is ideal for ranching and farming, and is known for its frequent Chinook winds (warm, dry winds that originate in the Rocky Mountains). Central Alberta, where the province’s capital city Edmonton is located, is frigidly cold in the winters but hot in the summers – it’s the perfect place to enjoy winter skiing, and summers on nearby lakes.
Northern Alberta has a sub-arctic climate with short warm summers; it is excellent for activities such as hunting, fishing, and skiing.

Wildlife

Wildlife is abundant in Alberta: you’ll be able to see buffalo, black bears, coyotes, wolves, foxes and pumas and grizzly bears in the mountain and wooded areas; Moose and deer in the forests; Mule deer, jumping deer and antelope in the prairies; Wild sheep and goats in the Rocky Mountains; and large numbers of ducks, Canadian geese, and swans in the central areas.
